Listen to Perfect Square!

FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra is one of the few organizations in the country that commissions orchestral music for preschool and kindergarten-aged children. The score was composed by Charles Lazarus, Minnesota Orchestra trumpeter. The story, Perfect Square, was written and illustrated by local author, Michael Hall. This was narrated and performed live for thousands of children during the 2014-15 Kinder Konzerts season.

About Kinder Konzerts: In October, 2016 Kinder Konzerts will be entering its 37th season, Kinder Konzerts is an educational program designed for 4-5 year-old children (parents have a great time, too!)

KK-on-stage[1]

These fun and innovative concert experiences are a great introduction to classical music for young children. Four and five year-olds are invited onstage with Minnesota Orchestra musicians to enjoy lively music. They will be introduced to eight orchestral instruments and hear a musical retelling of The Tin Forest with music composed by Steven Heitzeg, commissioned by FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra.

Prior to going on stage all children participate in a Sound Factory, a guided workshop where children are taught a musical concept while encouraged to touch, play and make sounds with instruments.

Who can participate? All schools, day cares, and individuals are invited to bring their 4 & 5 year-old children. Advanced registration is required.

Is there a teacher/parent workshop? Yes! There are two workshops to choose from:
