Kinder Konzerts Next Composer

We’re thrilled to announce Abbie Betinis as the composer for the 19th FRIENDS Kinder Konzerts commission! Selected from 34 applicants, Abbie will create an original piece inspired by the beloved children’s book Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina. Her work, the first Kinder Konzerts commission to be narrated in both Spanish and English, will debut during the 2025-26 season.

A St. Paul resident, Abbie impressed the committee with her creativity, energy, and passion for music education. With a rich background in composition and community engagement, she has worked with organizations like the New York State School Music Association and co-founded Justice Choir, using music for advocacy.

Abbie studied at St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota and will join the European American Musical Alliance Summer Institute in Paris in 2025.

Congratulations, Abbie—we can’t wait to hear your inspired creation!
