Mission
FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra is a diverse group of volunteers who value orchestral music generally and the Minnesota Orchestra specifically. Through our award winning programs for children, for families, for professional musicians beginning their careers, and for adult classical music lovers, we foster engagement with orchestral music and our Orchestra, now and going forward.

Meet A Musician/ACCENT
This series provides music lovers with a unique opportunity to meet a Minnesota Orchestra musician, conductor, or composer informally and in a small-group situation. Most typically, ACCENT gatherings begin with a social hour (wine, beer, and a dinner) followed by a conversation between FRIENDS host Melissa Ousley and our headliner, questions from the audience, and the artist’s musical selection.

Kinder Konzerts
Our flagship Kinder Konzerts program reaches over 6,000 pre-school children, parents, and teachers in an average year. For many children, this is the very first exposure to orchestral instruments, classical music, and Orchestra Hall. In 2020-21, FRIENDS developed a virtual version of Kinder Konzerts, including engaging online videos and a companion kit of musical instruments and activities for home, school. and public libraries.

Young Artist Competition
Launching the careers of many renowned musicians is FRIENDS’ Young Artist Competition, attracting talented entrants from across the country to compete for prizes, scholarships, and performance opportunities. The next Young Artist Competition will take place in 2022.
