Kinder Konzerts in the Hall

Kinder Konzerts in the Hall welcomes tiny guests to Orchestra Hall to listen to a narrated story with live music performed by a Minnesota Orchestra ensemble, learn simple musical concepts, and touch and play with instruments. Each year’s story is selected from our library of original musical scores, commissioned by FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra. The Kinder Konzerts in the Hall program is repeated 48 times each season, reaching over 6,000 children. The program also provides two well-attended teacher workshops each year to help classroom teachers integrate the Kinder Konzert experience with state education standards.

Kinder Konzerts on the Road

Kinder Konzerts on the Road brings our live and lively classical music programs directly to elementary schools in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Similar to our Kinder Konzerts in the Hall program, an ensemble of Minnesota Orchestra musicians performs one of our narrated musical stories and our volunteer guides run in-classroom music workshops for hand-on experience with orchestra instruments.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, FRIENDS has created our new Virtual Kinder Konzerts program. The 2020-21 season features the musical story One-Dog Canoe.

One-Dog Canoe

FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra is one of the few organizations in the country that commissions orchestral music for preschool and kindergarten-aged children. It is a multi-award winning program that celebrated it’s 40th anniversary in the 2019-20 season. The score for One-Dog Canoe was composed by Minnesota composer, Daniel Nass. The story was written by Minnesota author Mary Casanova, with artwork by Ard Hoyt.
