ACCENT With Rui Du & Hanna HyunJung Kim

$20.00

Violinist and Minnesota Orchestra Assistant Concertmaster Rui Du is headlining Meet A Musician/ACCENT with a performance of excerpts from The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto, a piece beloved in China but not as often performed in the United States. Internationally-known pianist Hanna HyunJung Kim joins Rui for this most appropriate way to kick off the Year of the Tiger! Following Rui and Hanna are performances by Gao Hong (PiPa) and Zhengang Xie and Mei Hu (Jing Hu and Yue Qin, respectively).

The 7pm start time kicks off with champagne and deserts followed by the program with Rui, Hanna, and our evening’s emcee, Melissa Ousley, the radio voice of the Minnesota Orchestra on MPR and a host of Classical MPR on Classical24. All will be involved in Q&A with Melissa, taking audience questions throughout the evening. It’s an informal opportunity to get to know these top-caliber musicians and hear them play traditional Chinese instruments on this most special of days!

FRIENDS is partnering with the University of Minnesota China Center to present this ACCENT event at McNamara Alumni Center on the day of Chinese New Year, February 1st.
