About FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra
Our mission is to create opportunities that bring the power of music to children, families, and adults.
We are a membership driven and financed organization. Membership is open to all who enjoy music, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the company of others who feel the same.
Our programs and social events provide our members with a special connection to the Minnesota Orchestra and its music and to each other.
Adult Social and Educational Events
Our members and music lovers delight in advancing their music knowledge and connection to the Minnesota Orchestra with our stand-out Meet A Musician/ACCENT programs that bring Minnesota Orchestra musicians or other prominent figures in the music community to speak in a friendly, intimate and interactive setting, complete with a little wine and food. We also hold 1-2 luncheons annually, a spring fundraiser, and other social events to enjoy each other’s company and make new friends.
Some of our members donate generously to FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra even though they are unable to attend social events or volunteer. Some have family or job commitments. Some live out of town during peak volunteer time. And some have too little time for all that presses on their calendar. But all believe in the programs and mission of FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra and want to keep these going and growing. There is a level of involvement for everyone.
As volunteers, we run Kinder Konzerts, our award-winning program that brings Minnesota Orchestra music to preschool, Kindergarten and early elementary school children who might not have even heard of a violin, much less had a chance to play one. We run our Young Artist Competition that provides young musicians with an opportunity to perform and be critiqued by professionals, including Maestro Osmo Vanska, and to compete for scholarship prizes, and an opportunity to play with the Minnesota Orchestra.
FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra takes the broadest possible view of diversity. We value the visible and invisible qualities that make individuals who they are.
We celebrate that every member, volunteer, and donor brings a unique perspective and experience to advance our mission: to make classical music and our Minnesota Orchestra accessible to every person in every community.
We strive to include diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the center of our volunteer work and our outreach programs, bringing music to our community and particularly to young children.
Please join us in embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion for every person in every community.
FRIENDS of the Minnesota Orchestra is dedicated to creating opportunities that connect people of all ages and ability to music and the incredible Minnesota Orchestra. Our programs and events are based on education, social, audience development and fundraising initiatives that increase engagement and participation with music.
